Michael Reekie was born and raised in Abbotsford, BC.  As a teenager, he attended Yale Secondary where he played Rugby, travelling twice to the UK with the touring side.  At he age of 17, Michael joined the Militia, serving with the Royal Westminster Regiment, initially as a soldier, and later as an officer, while he completed his studies at the University of British Columbia.  He took a year off from University to deploy overseas to Bosnia-Herzegovina where he served as a Platoon commander with the First Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry.

Upon graduation from UBC, with a major in History,  Michael transferred to the Regular Force, and was posted to the Second Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in Shilo, MB.  He deployed again, this time to Afghanistan, in 2006, serving as Company LAV Captain.  During the course of this tour, he was awarded the Medal of Military Valour, the citation reads as follows:  "On August 19, 2006, while deployed Ghar in Afghanistan, Captain Reekie carried out valiant actions during an intense firefight with Taliban insurgents. Displaying superb judgement, he assessed the changing tactical situation and repositioned his vehicle to maximum advantage, enabling the successful interception and defeat of a numerically superior enemy force during the ensuing three-hour firefight. His outstanding initiative prevented the enemy from outflanking the position. Captain Reekie's selfless courage and exceptional leadership undoubtedly saved the lives of numerous Alpha Company soldiers."

-Mike is married to his beautiful wife Charissa, of Royston BC, and they currently reside in Brandon , MB.  He is currently stationed in Shilo, Manitoba.with Alpha Company, 1st Royal Canadian Regiment Battle Group, in Masum.
