University of the Fraser Valley newsletter Applications still available for Fall 2010 All programs at UFV are still accepting applications for Fall 2010, however, we suggest students apply before January 31 as that is the recommended deadline. That will ensure that they have the best chance of being admitted to the program of their choice and to receive an early admission decision. Students can apply online at www.pas.bc.ca or mail in a paper application, available on our website at www.ufv.ca/ar/admissions/apply.htm . Students may continue to apply after January 31 but should check that programs are still accepting applications – updates on programs still accepting applications is available online at http://www.ufv.ca/ar/admissions/acceptapps.htm Documents for high school applicants High school applicants do not need to submit high school transcripts or placement test scores (such as LPI or the UFV Composition Placement test (CPT)) at this time with their application for admission for any program. High school applicants should submit interim grades in March, through the self-reporting system (see below). Placement test scores are required by March 31. Students who require placement test scores to qualify for admission to a program should ensure they have taken the tests by mid-February. If the program requires other documents (such as a personal statement or additional application) these should be submitted with the application. For more detail about program entrance requirements, students should check the program section of the online calendar at www.ufv.ca/calendar Students report high school grades in March The UFV self-reporting system will be open from March 1 to March 31. In February, students in programs requiring final and/or interim grades will be sent detailed instructions on how to submit their grades. Interim grades are not required for all UFV programs; for example, they are not required for students who have applied to any of the program paths (i.e. Arts Studies or Science Studies) or to General Studies. Reminder - optional provincial exams are not required at UFV UFV does not require optional provincial exams for grade 12 courses used for entrance requirements or course prerequisites, nor to qualify for scholarships at UFV. When a provincial exam is written (whether it is optional or mandatory for the student) UFV will use the higher of the school mark or the blended grade for entrance requirements or course prerequisites. For other information about our provincial exam policy, see frequently asked questions at http://www.ufv.ca/ar/admissions/provincial-exam-policy-change.htm Admissions questions? Because of the high demand for our programs, strong secondary school grades are required to be admitted. UBC uses Grade Point Averages (GPAs) to evaluate high school students for admission to the University. A student's GPA is calculated using grades from certain academic courses (see UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan viewbooks). GPAs used by the University vary each year depending on the number of students who apply to a given program and the grades those students present. UBC Vancouver UBC Vancouver students who wish to pursue the degrees in the table below should aim to earn grades within or above the percentage indicated. The averages listed below are based only on academic courses, not the overall average. Note that the percentage ranges below are given as guidelines only; in any given year, the GPA for admission may fall outside of these ranges.
