UFV Admissions Update

Submitting interim grades
The deadline for submission of interim grades was March 31. Students who have provided the necessary grades (and test scores if needed for their program) will be able to retain their original application date. Unfortunately, self-reported grades cannot be accepted after March 31, and online self-reporting will not be available. Students who have missed the deadline may manually submit interim transcripts from their schools provided the program is still accepting applications. They will be considered for admission after students who met the deadline, but may still be successfully admitted provided the program is still open for applications. If a student has not received a letter from the Admissions department regarding the submission of interim grades, we recommend they contact us via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to determine their program status.

Applications still being accepted
All programs except Bachelor of Kinesiology are still accepting applications for Fall 2010. We have experienced a significant increase in applications, however, so we encourage students to apply as soon as possible as some programs may be at capacity very soon. Check for programs still accepting applications http://www.ufv.ca/ar/admissions/acceptapps.htm  . High school students applying now for programs that require specific high school grades or test scores, should include their interim grades with their application in order to have a complete application and receive a timely response.

Applications still available for Fall 2010

All programs at UFV are still accepting applications for Fall 2010, however, we suggest students apply before January 31 as that is the recommended deadline. That will ensure that they have the best chance of being admitted to the program of their choice and to receive an early admission decision. Students can apply online at www.pas.bc.ca or mail in a paper application, available on our website at www.ufv.ca/ar/admissions/apply.htm .

Students may continue to apply after January 31 but should check that programs are still accepting applications – updates on programs still accepting applications is available online at http://www.ufv.ca/ar/admissions/acceptapps.htm

Documents for high school applicants

High school applicants do not need to submit high school transcripts or placement test scores (such as LPI or the UFV Composition Placement test (CPT)) at this time with their application for admission for any program.

High school applicants should submit interim grades in March, through the self-reporting system (see below). Placement test scores are required by March 31. Students who require placement test scores to qualify for admission to a program should ensure they have taken the tests by mid-February.

If the program requires other documents (such as a personal statement or additional application) these should be submitted with the application. For more detail about program entrance requirements, students should check the program section of the online calendar at www.ufv.ca/calendar

Students report high school grades in March

The UFV self-reporting system will be open from March 1 to March 31. In February, students in programs requiring final and/or interim grades will be sent detailed instructions on how to submit their grades. Interim grades are not required for all UFV programs; for example, they are not required for students who have applied to any of the program paths (i.e. Arts Studies or Science Studies) or to General Studies.

Reminder - optional provincial exams are not required at UFV

UFV does not require optional provincial exams for grade 12 courses used for entrance requirements or course prerequisites, nor to qualify for scholarships at UFV. When a provincial exam is written (whether it is optional or mandatory for the student) UFV will use the higher of the school mark or the blended grade for entrance requirements or course prerequisites.

For other information about our provincial exam policy, see frequently asked questions at http://www.ufv.ca/ar/admissions/provincial-exam-policy-change.htm

UBC Admissions

UBC Admission averages for September 2009

Admission average varies yearly based on the number of applications.

Because of the high demand for our programs, strong secondary school grades are required to be admitted.

UBC uses Grade Point Averages (GPAs) to evaluate high school students for admission to the University. A student's GPA is calculated using grades from certain academic courses (see UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan viewbooks).

GPAs used by the University vary each year depending on the number of students who apply to a given program and the grades those students present.

UBC Vancouver

UBC Vancouver students who wish to pursue the degrees in the table below should aim to earn grades within or above the percentage indicated. The averages listed below are based only on academic courses, not the overall average.

Note that the percentage ranges below are given as guidelines only; in any given year, the GPA for admission may fall outside of these ranges.

We are looking forward to welcoming many of your students to UNIVERSITY OF THE FRASER VALLEY for Fall 2010. Here is some information that you may need prior to the start of the application period:

Applications for Fall 2010 begin October 1, 2009

We will start accepting applications for the Fall 2010 semester on October 1. Applications may be submitted online, in person, or by mail. We recommend early application, but it is not critical that students apply on October 1. Students should take the time to ensure they have a complete application, i.e. they need to submit everything required for program entrance except high school grades and test scores (which they will submit in March). Students can find the information they require in the program section of the UFV online calendar at www.ufv.ca/calendar .

BSc - new Grade 11 early application option begins October 1

Grade 11 students considering the Bachelor of Science now have an exciting opportunity  to apply for the BSc for Fall 2011, beginning Oct. 1 of their grade 11 year. UFV will offer guaranteed admission for Fall 2011 for up to sixty Grade 11 applicants (provided they meet the entrance requirements in Grade 12). This will provide an opportunity for Grade 11 science students to receive advising at UFV, meet other students in the same group, and participate in activities such as our science fair. You may have more questions about this, so we have prepared some FAQs and info sheet online.

There's also an info sheet you can download and copy for interested students.  If more information is required, you can contact Karen Cooper, UFV science advisor at 604-854-4079, or toll-free at 1-888-504-7441 local 4079, or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Grade 11 applicants can apply through PASBC, choosing BSc Grade 11 Early application option. Students are encouraged to apply early as applications will close once we receive sixty applications, or by January 31, 2010, whichever is earlier.

New entrance options for Bachelor of Business Administration and Business Administration diploma

We are pleased to announce that Grade 12 applicants may now apply to enter the Bachelor of Business Administration degree directly. Also, students may now enter the Business Administration diploma with Principles of Math 11.
