Social Studies Social Studies 10 (SS 10) 4 creditsSocial Studies 10 studies Canadian History and the development of the Canadian West from 1800 to 1900. Additional themes will include, Canada and the Pacific Rim, Canadian geography, industry, lifestyles and an in depth study of British Columbia from exploration to modern times with emphasis on our economy and resources. Social Studies 11 (SS 11) 4 creditsIn grade 11, students continue their study of contemporary Canada by examining government and politics and by examining Canadian society and our relations with the rest of the world. A global perspective is gained by investigating such major concerns as population growth, the distribution of resources, and the impact of technology on contemporary society. A major component is Canadian History from the turn of the century to present day. Can be used to satisfy graduation requirements for Social Studies. • Offered depending on enrollment. The B.C. First Nations Studies Course has been designed as a provincially prescribed elective course, suitable for all students in B.C. schools. The course is primarily B.C. focused, emphasizing the traditions and history of British Columbia's First Nations peoples and a close look at the Sto:lo. The learning outcomes, however, broaden this scope somewhat through providing opportunities to look at topics such as differing forms of First Nations self - government across Canada and the literature produced by indigenous authors from other parts of the world. As a standard four-credit course, B.C. First Nations Studies 12 would consist of the B.C. First Nations Core Unit plus any three other units outlined in this guide. These are: • Core Unit • Literature Unit • Land and Resources Unit • Tradition and Challenge in Education Unit • Politics and Legislation Unit • Artistic Traditions Unit There is a required Provincial Exam at the end of this course worth 20% of the final mark. |
