Grads going to Dry Grad…. Listen up! Bring in your bags tomorrow morning and take them to the storage room at the back of the Main Gym.
Yale’s Spring Classic Tennis Tournament starts today after school. All tennis team members are to be at the courts at 2:45 sharp for match play.
All choir students singing at the graduation ceremony - this is our last rehearsal. Please be in the band room by 11:00 to rehearse and get information about when and where you are going tomorrow night! Soon Yoon,, Yoonsun Jee, Riley Park, please be there!
Grads that did not get their gown yesterday can get it today in the office from Mrs. Perkins.
ALL library books are now due! Check the overdue list posted on the Yale website and make sure you are not on it. Any lost or damaged books must be paid for. Students who don't settle accounts will not get their yearbooks.
The senior girls rugby team will be selling pizza in the front foyer tomorrow at lunch, come on down and get a slice for only $1.50

There are some basketball uniforms that haven't been returned. Your account has been charged and you won't be able to go to athletic banquet or get your year book until it is returned. You know who you are.
Girls Soccer: Your uniforms are to be returned to Mrs. Perrie in B103 before tomorrow.Track and Field team; meet in the main gym right after school today. Bring your spikes for the meet at Hansen. If you have not confirmed your attendance with Mr. Wight, see him ASAP.

Canada Day in May Success!
The Yale Secondary Leadership program held their annual Canada Day In May Fun Fair on Friday, May 17th. The students from grades 9-12 worked on booths that included leg waxing, hay rides, a chocolate fondue, balloon pop, bungee run, and many more fun activities. The entire school spent time at the fun fair, which was located in front of the school.
After the Yale students went back to class, students from McMillan Elementary and Fraser Middle school were invited over to participate in the fun. Over 500 students from those schools came over and interacted with the Yale Leadership students. A fantastic time was had by both the elementary and middle school students, as well as the Yale students who put the event on!

Live to Give 2013!
Yale Secondary students presented a cheque of over $18,000 to Free the Children last week. Last year they ran their first Global Fundraiser, Dare to Care, which was to support water sanitation projects in Kenya. In this year's big global fund raiser, Live to Give, Yale raised just over $18,000 for the organization. Specifically, Yale students fundraised to support education in war torn Sierra Leone. Just under 300 students canvassed neighbourhoods and asked relatives to donate to this worthy cause and with a minimum $50 donation, students were granted access to the overnight and fun-filled event.
Fun theme rooms organized by the senior leadership class included Girls in the City, Glow in the Dark Dodgeball, the Man Cave and Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory just to name a few. There was also a mechanical bull, a sports zone, a karaoke and x-box kinect room and a Hunger Games-themed obstacle course to keep students on their toes! Oh, and let's not forget the photo booth and lounge room to kick up your feet and learn more about the cause!
Special appearances were made by the Heat and Hawkey, not to mention our mayor Bruce Banman, the super-intendent, several school district trustees, and the Abbotsford News. Oh, and not to forget, the special video created just for Yaliens from the founder of Free the Children Craig Kielburger. With a scary movie, a night game, dance and door prizes, Live to Give 2013 was a great success. Stay tuned for next year's big global fundraiser where Yale will show that they care by supporting this new tradition of giving back to those in need around the world.
Reminder to Grads!
A quick reminder to all Grads to complete their Grad Exit Interview with me. I would like to have all of them completed no later than Friday, May 31st. If I am not in my office when you come to do your interview, please text me (604-613-7150) to set up a time that is convenient to complete the interview. This is a mandatory piece, essential to Graduation, and must be completed to receive your Dogwood.
Congrats to Junior Police Academy!
Congratulations to Ethan Wilson, Jesse Worley, Josh Dumitrascu, and Jordan Dobos who successfully completed the Abbotsford Junior Police Academy over the Spring Break. This highly competitive program provides a unique experience that allows students to participate in a 60 hour day camp situation. Students are exposed to a variety of policing tasks and skills. Yale PAC Annual General Meeting June 12th!
All parents are invited to attend the Yale PAC Annual General Meeting on June 12, 2013 at 7:00pm in the Yale school library. This meeting will include PAC Executive Elections for the upcoming 2013/2014 school year. Executive positions include PAC Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary. Other volunteer positions of School Planning Committee and District School Planning Committee person(s) are also held that night. All positions are wonderful opportunities to get involved in your child's school.
Be a Big Brother or Big Sister
Do you want to make a difference? Do you want to share some of your good fortune? Why not be a Big Brother or Big Sister to a young person that could really benefit from what you can offer.
This year we had 8 Yale students spend one hour a week at W.A. Fraser with a Little Brother or Little Sister. Among other things, they played games, chatted, and sometimes just "hung out" with their Little Sibling.
The In School Mentoring program provides girls and boys with a role model and a friend to talk to and share the experiences of growing up with, within school grounds. For one hour a week, mentors meet with their mentee and engage in activities such as board games, crafts or just hang out in the playground.
The In School Mentoring program requires a weekly visit of 1 hour for the duration of the school year. Matches do not meet over the summer break or during other school holidays.
The program strives to do the following:
-provide a role model and a friend for girls and boys.
-promote the importance of staying in school and healthy relationships with family and peers.
-instill trust and self-confidence in order to make healthy decisions.
-encourage leadership skills and independent thinking.
-and above all, make a difference while having fun.

Grade 10 Provincial Skills Field trip
Every year, all Secondary Schools in the Abbotsford School District send their grade 10's to the Skills Canada BC Competition that profiles and celebrates skilled labor in B.C. On Wednesday, April 17th all of Yale Secondary grade 10's will be bussed during Bk. D to the Tradex where they will observe the various Trades and Technology competitions. The students will watch Yale Lion, Dave Lawton, add a Provincial victory to his Regional Gold Medal in the Auto Service Technician category, and earn a trip to the National Competition later in the year. The Yale Robotics 9 class led by Mr. van Hunenstijn will also be competing at the Tradex.
