YALE P.A.C. EXEC
Elections were held and the new executive is as follows:
Chair: Audrey Gilpin
Vice Chair: Glen Thorne
Treasurer: Lilly Thorne
Secretary: Monica Blackman
Key Communicator: Wendy Toews
DPAC: Vacant
School Planning Council Representatives: Audrey Gilpin, Chris Rempel, Diane Herbert

Thank you to everyone who came out to the meeting. We would love to see more new faces at our next meeting. If you are interested in finding out more about what goes on at Yale and throughout the district, please attend. You should also know that we don't do fundraising. If that is what has kept you away in the past, please know that we receive our funds through Bingo and Direct Access Grants. Last year we had approximately $100,000 to spend. We will have a similar amount to spend this year, so if you would like a say in what this money is spent on, you need to attend our meetings.

Key Communicators, who represent each school's Parent Advisory Council, meet with the Superintendent several times during the school year. The purpose of these meetings is to provide information of interest to parents. Key Communicators then disseminate the information to their respective PAC's.

WHY SHOULD YOU BECOME MORE INVOLVED?

Parent involvement in education is widely recognized as a vital component to successful students and successful schools. Research shows that when parents are involved:

  1. Students achieve more. The more parent involvement, the better the student achievement.
  2. Students have higher grades and test scores, better attendance, and complete homework more consistently.
  3. Students exhibit more positive attitudes and behavior.
  4.  Students have higher graduation rates and greater enrollment rates in post-secondary education.
  5.  Negative student behavior, such as alcohol use, violence, anti-social behavior decreases.
  6. Students make better transitions to secondary school, and are less likely to drop out.
