Live To Give Raises $20K+!
The Yale Secondary Leadership Program held its annual Live to Give fundraiser February 26th and it was another huge success. In total $23,370 was raised for Canuck Place in Abbotsford. The students organized a "lock in" with theme rooms such as karaoke room, games room, food room, man cave, ladies room, and even a giant slip and slide down the hallway. The evening began with a visit from Yale grad and Canucks TV host Hannah Bernard got the crowd of 300 students pumped up about the evening and then introduced Jake Virtanen and Ben Hutton from the Vancouver Canucks. The two Canucks complimented the students on working so hard fundraising for a such an important cause and spoke of their experiences visiting Canuck Place.
This was the fifth annual Live to Give at the school which has now raised over $100,000. In past they have raised money for Free the Children, but decided this year to choose an organization in Abbotsford. The students work together to decide who to donate the money too and research different organizations. They even went on a field trip to visit Canuck Place in Abbotsford to see the different programs they have and the great work they do. The night was capped off with some great prizes, including a Henrick Sedin signed stick and a Hoverboard. A very tired group of students went home Saturday morning with a sense of pride for surpassing their $20,000 goal.
