Sr. Boys Rugby Capture Bronze at Provincial Sevens!
The Yale Senior Boys Rugby team have been having a great season. They have earned themselves a spot in the Fraser Valley Championship game by beating rival Robert Bateman School 10-3 last week. Try scorers were Noah Bain and Evan Johnston. This was the second strainght win over Bateman which earned the Lions Abbotsford Cup Champions.
The squad have also been very successful on the Rugby Sevens scene. They won the Fraser Valley Sevens with a big 48-0 win over Elgin Park in the final. Big and speedy Daniel Cerecel was named tournament MVP. They then traveled to St George's School in Vancouver for the BC High School Sevens Championships. The Lions defeated Oak Bay and Argyle in pool play before facing perennial powerhouse Shawnigan Lake School in the semi final. The Lions only trailed by two points at the half before running out of steam and falling 35-17. This created a rematch with Oak Bay in the consolation final. The Lions controlled the ball, with great attacks from Noah Bain, Josh Long, and Matt Fraser. Oak Bay made a last minute push to make it close but Yale hung on to win 19-12 to win the bronze medal and become Public School Champions.
The Fraser Valley final will be at Rotary Stadium in Abbotsford May 13th at 5:30pm versus Earl Marriott.
